Ofsted Report, Health Checks and School Performance

The Priory School, one step away from Outstanding! - Ofsted note ‘significant improvements’ to this already ‘Good’ school.

Priory Ofsted Report 2019

 

The Priory School in Spalding have maintained their ‘Good’ Ofsted rating after a positive inspection on 19th March 2019. The report noted ‘improved quality of education’, ‘wonderful learning experiences’ and ‘exemplary pupil behaviour’ for the school that caters for pupils aged between 11-16 with a range of needs.

Ofsted were full of praise for the school leadership team. The report explained, ‘School leaders have improved the quality of education in school. The school leadership team have created a positive learning community, where pupils make significant progress.’

At the heart of the provision is a long-term plan to ensure every pupil is capable of reaching their full potential. ‘The curriculum is extremely well thought out, providing pupils with the skills and qualification for their next steps in education. School leaders adjust the curriculum to ensure it meets the individual needs of the pupils.’

The report also detailed how ‘staff benefit from the outstanding professional development that school leaders and the Trust provide.’

Staff at The Priory were noted for being positive role models across the school. ‘Staff engage enthusiastically with pupils as they arrive in the morning, motivating pupils to engage well with their learning… staff exchange ideas and their passion for the school and for pupils has a significantly positive impact on pupils’ outcomes and well-being.’

Their hard work was also underpinned as the report stated, ‘Planning is meticulous, ensuring that the activities teachers set pupils help them meet their individual targets.’

Such dedication leads to ‘a wonderful learning experience’ where ‘pupils’ behaviour is exemplary.’

Ofsted explained how, ‘All pupils successfully moved on to their intended destination last year. This is due to the carefully structured plan which helps pupils to prepare for life in post-16 education.’

The report added, ‘Employability skills is at the heart of all your practice and pupils are well prepared for their next steps in education.’

Daran Bland, Executive Headteacher of The Priory, was very pleased with the grading. “We are all delighted with the outcome of the recent visit from Ofsted. Inspectors have recognised the hard work and commitment from all at the school to ensure pupils get the very best education, care and guidance. This “Good Improver School” outcome will mean we can look forward to a return visit from Ofsted in the not too distant future for a full inspection.”

“All of our pupils have wide ranging special educational needs and our aim is to prepare them for life after the Priory School. The school’s innovative and diverse curriculum was noted as being of particular strength and it is through this we strive to develop confident young people who are ready for further education, independent living and the world of work. We are very fortunate to have such an enthusiastic and skilful staff team, supportive parents and considerate, hardworking and courageous pupils!”
